Welcome to this evidence-based practice website. Healthcare is changing at a rapid pace that involves reimbursement and the provision of care. At the heart of these changes is evidence-based practice (EBP). This website is intended to provide resources for occupational therapists to move forward with the changing demands of healthcare. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) is including EBP under the purview of quality care and tethering this practice with reimbursement. Therefore, this website was developed to keep current with changes in healthcare, to provide quality care to our clients, and to scientifically represent the profession of occupational therapy. On this site you have the opportunity to learn and/or review EBP, download forms, and share your article reviews with each other. The site includes a link to a Facebook page, a place where you are able to share ideas, ask questions, and problem solve your way to EBP with the company of other interested practitioners.
History of Evidence-Based Practice in Occupational Therapy
1917: AOTA (2008)[1] states founders advocated for "scientific practice on systematic observations and treatment" (pp. 664-665)
2013: AOTA’s (2012)[2] Centennial Vision for 2017: "We envision that occupational therapy is a powerful, widely recognized, science-driven, and evidence-based profession with a globally connected and diverse workforce meeting society's occupational needs."
2013: AOTA (2012)[3] states within the Affordable Care Act: “all providers, including occupational therapy practitioners, will be held accountable for providing high quality, patient-centered, evidence-based care at reduced cost” (p. 3).
