Evidence-Based Practice (EBP)
What is EBP?
According to early pioneers, Sackett, Rosenberg, Gray, Haynes, and Richardson (1996)[4] “evidence based medicine is the conscientious, explicit, and judicious use of current best evidence in making decisions about the care of individual patients” (p. 72). In addition to using evidence, evidence-based medicine (EBM) includes the clinicians expertise and the clients individual circumstance and choice. The authors go on to explain what EBM, or in the world of rehabilitation, EBP is not. The not, is a “cookbook” mindless approach exclusively using outside scientific discoveries or evidence.
